This is an area where I felt we gained so much from having a local guide, who as well as taking us to some of the best sites, was also able to put everything into historical context. Due to some confusion, I was late by 10 mins and she was very gracious about it. We loved every step we took, admired every old building, traditional homes, temples, traditions, captured the timeless beauty of the tombstones, the quaint shops and friendly people, gifted artisans, gardens, shrines, sake shop, tea, fermented foods, moms with babies in their electric bikes and more.
